Hi all,
A friend of mine, Alan Griffiths, has asked me to ask you to support his
peak oil play.
I have know Allan for 10 years and he is a committed long time campaigner on
social justice issues (check out our flipper actions we ran in Dec 2003
http://www.futureenergy.org/news.html#FTA).
The play is designed to promote the issue of peak oil, so if your looking
for an outlet to donate some money to promote the broader understanding of
oil peak please get in touch with Allan, have a chat about what he is doing
and if you like it, donate.
Please pass this on to people, businesses and lists you as you think is
appropriate.

Autogeddon
A Comedy About the End of the World by Motorcar
'Of course I know what the greenhouse effect is! Denzel Washington was
fabulous in it.'
Hi, my name is Alan Griffiths and I am presenting the theatre show
Autogeddon in the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2006 at the Northcote Town Hall.
Written by award winning writer Russell McGilton (Bombay to Beijing by
Bicycle) and directed by Alice Bishop (The Sheryls) Autogeddon is a
multimedia theatre production featuring a singing, dancing cast of 8 actors
including McGilton, Natalie Carr (Tropfest 2005 Best Actress) and Sarah Jane
Chapman (House of Application - winner of 2 Fringe Festival Awards 2005),
plus dozens of scrumptious fun-filled car smashes.
Autogeddon has been adapted from a poem by English poet and actor Heathcote
Williams. It is now a dark, funny and prophetic indictment outlining the
times we are currently experiencing with record petrol prices and climate
change. We are marketing this show to the 18 - 45 age group, as we believe
Autogeddon is a powerful tool in presenting the environmental message of
Peak Oil.
With souring petrol prices and accelerating climate change we believe this
production is only going to become more relevant as time goes on. We
therefore intend to market this show next year to high schools and other
arts festivals around Australia.
To assist this independently produced production we are seeking individual
donations to help us get this show off the ground. We also have a generous
sponsorship package, which is 100% tax deductible for those businesses
interested in aligning themselves with this show. As you can probably guess,
we're not interested in seeking assistance from anyone remotely associated
with the car lobby.
Part of Autogeddon's publicity will be distributing information through
various environmental networks plus advertising on local radio and in the
printed media. We're also hired one of Melbourne's top publicists who is
donating some of her time to the cause on a pro-bono basis.
The show is on at Northcote's new arts precinct at the Northcote Town Hall,
which is the Northcote Fringe Hub. The Northcote Town Hall is a signature
landmark in the area and well known by this demographic. The venue itself is
located in the heart of one of the highest green voting electorates in
Australia - a perfect complement to the message of this work.
It's so exciting to be presenting such a show at this time, as I believe it
could really takeoff. I have an excellent cast on board, a well-known and
respected director and a top class crew putting in allot of spare hours to
make it happen. I look forward to seeing you at the show.
