If we are really serious about "preparing ourselves for a worst case scenario", the last thing we'll do is run public conferences and publicize the state of affairs. Instead, we'll keep quiet and make our plans in private so that when the crunch comes, the rest are left dazed and squabbling amongst themselves and ultimately perishing - well behind us. There are only so many that can survive "a worst case scenario" and the person you convince of the direness of the situation might well be the one who out-bids you for that block of land, plunders your supply of survival gear, seduces your spouse, dobs you in to the police/military state or cons you out of your hoard of gold sovereigns.

You can be either a survivalist or a publicist. You can't succeed at both. You can exhaust yourself trying to do both, but you won't succeed - the two are incompatible.

Personally, I'm not preparing for a "worst case scenario", nor am I expecting or preparing for a sublime powerdown and a gentle transformation of Australian society and we descend the post-peak downslope.

Have a great Easter break, everyone!

Mitigation is definitely the main game but the way the world is going on now at the moment largely in complete oblivion to Peak Oil and Climate Change means that us who know about the issues need to prepare ourselves if those around us continue to take the current course. While It is pointless if we those who understand these issues become too survival focused while at same time it may be negligent if we do not start thinking about preparing for survival. Finding a balance between campaigning for action while at the same time preparing ourselves for the worst case scenario is critical.
