[Peakoil] Survival 101

If we are really serious about "preparing ourselves for a worst case  
scenario", the last thing we'll do is run public conferences and  
publicize the state of affairs. Instead, we'll keep quiet and make our  
plans in private so that when the crunch comes, the rest are left dazed  
and squabbling amongst themselves and ultimately perishing - well  
behind us. There are only so many that can survive "a worst case  
scenario" and the person you convince of the direness of the situation  
might well be the one who out-bids you for that block of land, plunders  
your supply of survival gear, seduces your spouse, dobs you in to the  
police/military state or cons you out of your hoard of gold sovereigns.

You can be either a survivalist or a publicist. You can't succeed at  
both. You can exhaust yourself trying to do both, but you won't succeed  
- the two are incompatible.

Personally, I'm not preparing for a "worst case scenario", nor am I  
expecting or preparing for a sublime powerdown and a gentle  
transformation of Australian society and we descend the post-peak  
downslope.
