If you are considering electricity-powered public transport, wouldn't trolleybuses be preferable to trams?

T\Although trolleybuses would use more energy, they are far more flexible as they don't require any investment in the rigid infrastructure of rails. So changing the routes would cost a fraction of re-routing tram lines. If there is an accident on the rails, trams would have to stop; trolleybuses could go around it. Trolleybuses could share much of the existing ACTION infrastructure.

The ACT Greens have called on the Government to reverse its failure to pursue long-mooted plans for a Canberra light-rail network.
