Some readers will be familiar with Kim Bax's energetic activism. I have
pasted below her latest foray.

See her website for many other examples, both cheeky and serious:

  Subject: Peak Oil & education in Qld . . . .

  I've just sent this out:-

  From Mrs. Kim Bax,
  77 Orion Road,
  Cedar Vale,
  Qld 4285

To Rod Welford, Minister for Education, Qld

  Cc - Queensland's high schools

  Cc - Queensland's state politicians

  Dear Rod,

Re my question to you on educating Queensland's children about "Peak
Oil,"
sent on the 17th March 2005 (now almost 2 months ago). Here it is:-

http://www.kimspages.org/rodwelford.htm

No answers on this yet Rod? It's very important, seeing as the lives
our
children will be very different from our own - as expensive/scarce oil
replaces cheap/abundant supplies (an assumption our entire society, and
financial system, is built on). Surely the major changes they're facing
should be an integral part of their current education? I'm the mother
of a
14 year old, and this worries me very much

Or is it too embarrassing to formally teach Queensland's children about
these major changes, while the Queensland Government is embarked on
massive
road tunnel toll projects? I've formally written to my super fund (Q
Super)
about the inadvisability of investing in this planned infrastructure -
and
I'm still awaiting their reply. Here's my fax to them:-

I'll send official reminders at appropriate intervals.

I note that a recent article in "The Sunday Mail" (Darrel Giles),
predicted
$2 a litre petrol by Christmas - and one of the World's leading
investment
bankers (Goldman Sachs), is predicting $105 litre a barrel petrol in
the
  near future.

As for educational resources, I would recommend this new DVD (which
I've
just purchased), from "The Community Solution." It's called "The Power
of
Community" and documents how Cuba survived a massive overnight cut in
its
oil imports, when the Soviet Union collapsed. In a nutshell, they've
already experienced "Peak Oil" - and come out the other side without
mass
  starvation or homelessness:-

I'm also showing this other DVD to my local Chamber of Commerce
(Beaudesert)
in the near future ("Imposed by Nature"):-

Look forward to hearing from you.

  Best wishes, Kim
