Car sales slump AAP

Sales of new cars and trucks slumped 10 per cent in April, official figures
released today show.

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries said 68,650 new vehicles were
retailed last month, compared to 76,487 in the same month last year.

The figure took total demand for the first four months of 2006 to 303,255,
down 3.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2005.

Toyota was the top selling company in April with 14,712 vehicles, ahead of
Holden on 10,417 and Ford on 8,372.
