<P>Sales of new cars and trucks slumped 10 per cent in April, official figures
released today show.</P>
<P>The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries said 68,650 new vehicles were
retailed last month, compared to 76,487 in the same month last year.</P>
<P>The figure took total demand for the first four months of 2006 to 303,255,
down 3.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2005.</P>
<P>Toyota was the top selling company in April with 14,712 vehicles, ahead of
Holden on 10,417 and Ford on 8,372.</P>
