[Peakoil] Syriana Tuesday 21st

I'll have to be an apology - Rural Fire Service training.

(Without much luck, I've tried to imagine fighting fires without diesel
for the pumps and trucks. Watch this space)

On a brighter note, someone asked me the other day whether any
alternative (overall) energy systems could work. This is one of the best
I've been able to find:

http://www.i-sis.org.uk/DFHTBCC.php

There's a summary para of the process under the (missing) Figure 1 spot.

I've also seen descriptions of such systems applied to (sub)urban
environments, with designs based on 'greenhouse' enclosures with
humanure as feedstock. I'm trying to figure out how to convert our
(currently useless) septic tank to an anaerobic digester. At the least,
I consider myself fortunate to know where my 'wastes' ARE.

Also interesting was the section on direct, local processes for methane
--> hydrogen fuel cells, which might overcome some of the noted net
energy/carrier-only issues.

Meantime - I'd now put probability that we peaked planetwise at the end
of 2005 at 80%.

Unhappily, I'd also put the probability that we have now passed a
(possibly irreversible) global warming tipping point at about the same
number, due to methane release feedback loops (both tundra peat release
and oceanic methane hydrates).

Happy to discuss.

Given these and other factors, I'm with Keith T - the 'Solutions and
Sustainability' strategies have become critically important and
immediately needed - as of course they always have been!

Hi folks,

I'm proposing we have a look at Syriana on Tuesday 21st February at
Greater Union Manuka at 18:40

http://www.greaterunion.com.au/cinemas/cinema.asp?Cinema=16

It's cheap Tuesday so tickets are $8!

And of course I'm gonna bring the stickers and leaflets!
