Hi folks,

The next Save The Ridge meeting will feature an interesting-sounding talk
on the effective speed of different modes of transport.

Dear Members and Supporters,

You are invited to the next STR members meeting on Monday 6 June at 7:30pm
in the O'Connor Uniting church hall, corner of Scrivener and Brigalow
Streets in O'Connor.

We will hear an intriguing presentation by an eminent environmental
scientist on how the costs of cars are slowing us down, and debate what we
should do about the orange ribbons still visible on (as yet) un-bulldozed
trees.

....

Talk on ³effective speed² by Dr Paul Tranter (School of Physical,
Environmental and Mathematical Sciences at ADFA).

Dr Tranter, Canberra¹s very own transport guru, will give a presentation at
the meeting on the exciting new concept of "effective speed". By
calculating speed on the basis of the total amount of time consumed by a
particular mode of transport, Dr Tranter will reveal some surprising results
in the comparison of cars, bicycles and public transport.

His presentation on "effective speed" was originally given at an Australian
Greenhouse Office seminar entitled "Sustainable Development Makes Good
Business Sense" held in Brisbane in October 2004.

So please come along and bring your friends too for the first time Dr
Tranter will give his talk in Canberra!

....

NB. If you wish to get to the meeting by public transport, the good news is
bus No. 33 still runs right by the front door for the start of the meeting,
but you¹ll have to figure out the complexities of the new Flexibus system to
get home...
