In fact it already is solar. It's just that one species has not diverted so much of it to its own industrial use. Giving Homo sapiens more energy will just enable them to exploit other species and their habitats more ruthlessly. The biosphere of this planet is not waiting breathlessly for our species to spread solar panels and reflectors in places it - self-centredly - determines are "available".

Solar energy does very nicely at the moment by direct heating and photosynthesis. It is our huge, plague numbers population and our sense of entitlement that we can live beyond the planet's diminishing capacity that's the problem.
