"Aerotropolis flaw" Letters p.20

Murray May writes that the idea of airport cities driving economic
growth is flawed. Global warming requires us to substantially reduce
air travel.

Comment: Except in emergency I plan never to fly again. Trains are
good for Sydney and the bus/train combination to Melbourne is
reasonable. On the other hand airships are possibly a lot more energy
efficient - if lifted by hydrogen not helium.

"Rethink on Drought" Letters p.20

Nick Goldie writes that Peter Martin's comments on drought are flawed
and that what happend to our farms does matter. The end of unlimited
power and transport and unstable climate means we must rethink our
agricultural production methods.

Comment: Hmmmmm. Nick is from Michelago. Is it a coincidence that
Jenny Goldie is too? ;^) The questions that Nick raises are greatly
important locally. we wont be able to ship our food in as cheaply
from thousands of kilometers away. it will be more expensive to get
to the Malls to buy them. What are we to do? Locally produced food
will become much more competitive and the distribution methods will
be different. perhaps many more smaller farmer's markets.
