"Oil price reins in spending" -AAP p.16

Consumer confidence has dropped cause by higher oil prices and the  
expectation of an interest rate rise in August.

Comment: If rates do go up expect a lot more debate about the price  
of petrol and suggestions that the government should do something -  
which they can't easily.

"Beazley uranium u-turn" by Ross Peake p.1

Beazley supports more uranium mines. The ALP doesn't.

Comment: Expect a lot more debate on energy policy. Discussion on  
nuclear power will be a distraction from petrol prices.

"Reserve to raise rates next week: economists"  by Kanchan Dutt p.3

Inflation from rises in petrol prices and effects of Larry are  
causing inflation. Reserve Bank is likely to lift interest rates.

"Time running out for ailing Earth" by Roberto Mancuso p.8

Reports Gorbachev's speech. Again he does not mention peak oil.

Comment: Focusing on global warming without looking at peak oil is a  
problem. The likely alternatives to crude oil such as coal to oil  
conversion, oil shale and tar sands with increase the rate CO2 is put  
into the atmosphere and are likely to accelerate global warming.
