[Peakoil] meetup outcome

Hi folks,

Last Wednesday's meetup came up with ideas for incorporation but I'd say
it's still some way off.

The order of discussion was objectives, organisation, constitution, name.

Objectives
__________

The overall idea behind the group is "oil awareness within the framework of
sustainability". Sustainability is a notion that has lost impact over time,
but we should take its real meaning seriously. The accepted definition is
pretty absolute (See previous email of Sun Apr 24 )

The objectives fleshed out:

* Lead discussion and provide clear, reliable information on oil depletion
and related issues.

* Promote and support practical means to achieve sustainability

And the approach to achieve this:

* Envision a better, more sustainable society
* Network by bringing together like-minded people
* Be ready to tackle/consider difficult issues
* Learn by actively seeking out information, knowledge and skills
* Have respect for all people

which follows the prescription in "Limits to Growth - the 30 year update"

Organisation
____________

We should try to have an org chart telling us what the organisation should
ultimately look like and how the various groups within it should
communicate. (See Leigh's discussion paper in a previous email) Then the
organisation can organically grow in accordance with that plan. That's
internal communications. We didn't really get to external communications
(eg press release authorisation).

Constitution
____________

There is a model constitution provided for under ACT legislation, but it is
very prescriptive. Organisations like Save the Ridge get away with much
briefer constitutions. We should probably get the organisation up and
running to some extent without setting things in concrete too soon.

Name
____

This was considered last because it depends on all the above. "Peak Oil"
may be too unknown a term to attract public attention, maybe "Oil
Depletion" is better.

Other meeting attendees please pitch in with anything I've missed or
misrecorded in the above summary. Any comments?

Alex
